SAMESAME
upcycled glass products
A series of remodeled glass bottles emerged from Laura Jungmann’s Product Design diploma “Same, same. But different” in 2013. This multiply rewarded work was the origin for the glass collection SAMESAME, which – in cooperation with glass blower Cornelius Réer – is now being exhibited for the first time within the talents section of the consumer goods fair Ambiente in Frankfurt. Visitors will see a collection of reformed glass objects, created by Cornelius Réer in his glass manufacture and produced from commercially available glass bottles. Those industrially produced bottles are being revalued both functionally and esthetically by means of traditional craftsmanship. Thus, the distinctive features of the industrially produced bottles are being preserved while their esthetics become contradictory: A high-value individual item originates from a standardized mass product. SAMESAME is an attempt to show a new creative way to alternative product and production thinking. The often times misinterpreted term “sustainability” by its actual meaning provides the basis of this project. But first of all it’s a tribute to an increasingly forgotten trade.
