Keep on gazing

Unworked stones are beautiful. Just as nature, and everything that originates from within itself, that can recognise and look within itself, is beautiful. Why should I destroy something through large-scale sculptural interventions? I prefer to build up a contrast through minimal changes, to place worked and unworked matter in opposition to each another, thereby to point even more emphatically to the original state and create a new kind of unity. And besides: Is there not beauty in everything we “make eyes at”, everything we can regard with a “loving gaze”? Doesn’t our loving gaze create beauty in everything we look at? Perhaps this is the higher form of art: To beautify the world through the love in our gaze.………….keep on gazing!

Everyday’s little comedies and tragedies…

…are commented in Anne Kückelhaus’s pieces, sometimes critical, sometimes humorous, in their transformation to sculptures or installations. The narrative power of her work lies in the hyperbolic nature of the figures shown, and the rearrangement of their context. Human characteristics are assigned to the figures and the situations – in the arrangement of the individual components – and also by the viewer, so that the action and behavior shown by the animals are likewise telling about humans.

These works arise and exist.

Herbert Hundrich’s art works are emerging. In the open and closed space, in the countryside, urban areas, and in the sociopolitical life. It is his language to get in contact with this world, to communicate with people, to confront the issues he sees. It’s his way, his contribution to what is happening in this world. He observes, reflects, thinks about it and then finds his own position. He accepts tasks, problems, and questions in order to find new ways of addressing them. Hundrich also tries to find new possibilities and new solutions using the media that are available to him. This applies to art as well as to life.

aesthetics of transformation

The aesthetics of Aino Nebel’s art is aesthetics of coming into existence, of process of change, and of transformation. The material itself is the motive force of her work, the material’s essence being its theme. The handling of porcelain as sculptural medium makes appear the creative power of its various consistencies having a wide range from liquid to hard. The heat of the kiln, too, has an obvious effect, the objects are fired multiple times and sometimes overheated. Deformations are admissible and desirable. Failed objects, broken fragments and debris become embedded in new entities as layers of time. Aino Nebel’s work thrives on these production aesthetics. It seeks an expression beyond representation, narration or content. Fragments result in a structure, the empty spaces and gaps therein are significant. It is not the image that is important, but the figurative space that unfurls. The issue is a poetical and utopian space with open edges.

Square as a source element

The square is a symbol for silence and order. It provides orientation in the space for the people. It is a symbol of the limitation and therefore symbol of the shaping, or it indicates at the life level of the world(matter): East – west, south – north. It is marked by the same(identical) lengths and angle. This also applies for the cube in the three-dimensional expansion. With cutting the cubes Ernst Petras destroys this silence and order. He solves the borders, create restlessness and mess up to the chaos. The artists lets arise sculptures with absolutely new character which go away of the strict geometrical clearness to an open partly artistic ease. They step in a visible dialogue with the background.
